Class meets for three hours a week (not on JLC membership)

Wednesday morning plus either Thursday morning or Friday evening

Wednesday

  • 11.00 am Portfolio Session on Classroom management for all dance subjects
  • 12.00 noon Portfolio Session on knowing the law regards teaching

Thursday

  • 11.00 am Theory and Practical Class for Ballroom
  • 12.00 noon Theory and Practical Class for Latin American
  • 1.00 pm Theory and Practical Class for Classical Sequence

Friday

  • 6.00 pm Theory and Practical Class for Ballroom
  • 6.00 pmTheory and Practical Class for Latin American

This Academy is run by JLC Dance Principal Janet Lee Chapman F&EUKA  FIDTA

Full £615.00 course approx. for 44 weeks ( can’t make these times ask about Distant learning courses)

It  an opportunity for you to meet others with the same goals to practice what your learning and “own” your own training, to step up and take responsibility for progress. 

You will be expected to attend regularly (you must attend at least 3 classes a month) and to buy your own theory books, pay for exams, DBS Checks and insurance and external courses We recommend you also have Private lessons to accompany the course.

Theory and Practical Private lessons for those who want to become dance teachers (must book) £35 per hour YOU MUST BOOK (Teacher Janet Lee Chapman)

UKA Course
JLC Teaching Assistant Level
Approximately 6 -10 lessons working towards our Teaching Assistant Level 1 paper – 10 questions on aspects you have studied in the first 2 months.
Once this is passed you will be able to purchase a JLC teaching assistant t-shirt and be given a Teaching Assistant Badge showing you are level 1.
This means you can observe Adult lessons.
OU Dance Skills – Level 2 (Optional ask Janet about course)
Approximately 6 -10 lessons working towards our JLC Teaching Assistant Level 2 paper – 20 questions on aspects you have studied in the first 4 months.
Once this is passed we will change your badge to level 2 badge.
This means you can observe lessons and help in beginners classes when asked by the qualified teacher.
OU Three principles of a coaching approach Level 1 (Optional ask Janet about course)
Approximately 6 -10 lessons working towards our JLC Teaching Assistant Level 3 paper – 30 questions on aspects you have studied in the first 6 months plus a demonstration of two dances as man and lady.
Once this is passed we will change your badge to level 3 badge.
This means you can observe lessons and help in class when asked by the qualified teacher.
What is Bio Mechanics- Dance Knowledge (Optional ask Janet about course)
Approximately 6 -10 lessons working towards  Student Teacher Examination UKA. (ask Janet for price and bookings)
Once this is passed we will change your badge to level 4 badge.
This means you can observe lessons and help in class when asked by the qualified teacher.
As a Student Teacher with the UKA you will be entailed to apply for a D&B this allows us to lets you attend children’s classes. once our Students paper Level 1 is passed.
At this point we advise you to take a first aid certificate (Optional ask Janet about course & price)
Approximately 6 -10 lessons working towards Student Teacher Level 1 paper – 10 questions on Child protection, Risk assessment.
Once this is passed you will be able to purchase a JLC Student teachers t-shirt and be given a Student Teaching Badge showing you are level 1.
This means you can observe Children and Adult lessons.
At this point we advise you to take a Safeguarding level 1  (Optional ask Janet about course)
Approximately 6 -10 lessons working towards Student Teacher Level 2 paper – 20 questions on associate syllabus.
Once this is passed we will change your badge to level 2 badge.
This means you can observe and help in Children and Adult lessons.
Safeguarding Children in Education (Optional ask Janet about course)
Working with young people in sport & exercise Level 2 (Optional ask Janet about course)
Approximately 6 -10 lessons working towards Student Teacher Level 3 paper – 30 questions on associate syllabus plus a demonstration of four dances as man and lady.
Once this is passed we will change your badge to level 3 badge.
This means you can observe and help in Children and Adult lessons.
UK Anti-Doping Accredited Adviser 2018 (Optional ask Janet about course & Price)
UK Anti-Doping Clean Coach 2018 (Optional ask Janet about course & Price )
Approximately 6 -10 lessons working towards UKA Associate Teaching Qualification (ask Janet for price and bookings)
This means you are a qualified teacher at this point you need to decided what you wish to do with your career leave and start your own school/apply for jobs or take another qualification either higher or in a different style of dance.
Note
UKA Student and UKA Associate examinations are marked externally and will need to be paid for in advance via JLC Dance Ltd to the UKA …… Ask Janet for prices
None of these positions are paid positions.
